Midweek Mending - Your Weekly Healing Thread

    Posted: 30 Sep 2020 02:37 AM PDT

Welcome to Midweek Mending, your weekly thread for everything related to trying to save people who just can't help but stand in the fire. You're the hero we need but don't deserve. There is class specific advice below, but you can also post general questions that you have pertaining to healing of any kind.

Check out pins within the Class Discords (Retail) or the Class Discords (Classic) for good, vetted information.

Its becoming increasingly clear that developing entirely new "game systems" each expansion, only to scrap them at the end, has become an enormous sink of hours and effort

    Posted: 29 Sep 2020 10:39 AM PDT

With rumors now swirling that pre-patch and the expansion may be delayed due to continuing issues with bugs and the fundamental game, the question has to be asked: how much of this is because of the enormous required effort focused on covenants, soulbinds, conduits, and legendaries?

It's pretty self-evident from the systems that keep being introduced each expansion (artifacts+legendaries+class halls into azerite gear into covenants), there's a substantial amount of time required from developers, quality testers, bug fixers, etc, to get these systems off the ground.

That's all well and good if these systems add to the game (there's plenty of existing debate about whether or not these systems are good or bad, that's not my point with this post). The problem is that Blizzard likes to spend the entirety of the development cycle shipping these systems for launch, then iterating on these systems through the expansion itself, and finally reaching a state of fulfillment towards the close of the expansion.

Then...they scrap the whole thing. This is now the third expansion in a row to have huge game-system additions (not counting garrisons, though maybe I should) that provide an enormous increase in required hours to the development cycle. Not one of these systems lasts through their own expansion.

Why? Why go through all the time of building these things only to just get rid of them at the end of the expansion? Why couldn't we have continued to iterate on legendaries into BFA? Instead of azerite armor, we could have introduced a new set of legendaries - ones that gave the same traits as Azerite gear, like Shrouded Suffication and Blaster Master and even class-neutral things like Overwhelming Power. These could have just been an extension of the system that was developed.

But instead, we spend all this time just building new things. And now it's happening again. There wasn't enough time spent fixing class designs or bugs or things that players are begging for Blizzard to pay more attention to, because the only thing that seems to matter for Shadowlands is Covenants.

Whatever ends up happening in SL and the expansion that comes after, I hope Blizzard finally develops a system to the point where the players and the devs are happy with it, and then evolves it for the new expansion instead of leaving it to rot.

    A Race Re(night)borne

    Posted: 29 Sep 2020 07:30 PM PDT

I know that I am hardly the first to really fall in love with the Nightborne as a race with everything they bring to the world like their lore and aesthetic to the astounding city of Suramar. That said, I know I am also not the first to ask for upgrades and additions to the playable race, since what we have still falls short of the expectations we had as we aided Thalyssra with the Nightfallen rebellion.

I've thrown together a visual summary of the changes and additions I would like to see and I'd love some feedback and discussion from the community to see if anyone feels similarly! I mainly cover character customization and the justification for adding druids as a class as well as some ideas for Nightborne druid forms. The justification includes a bit of lore to tie in why I believe Nightborne should be druids, so for that reason I've marked this post as a spoiler, so please be aware of that.

Spot the difference. Conduits are literally just glyphs, except with a week long cooldown.

One thing Blizz has done perfect is the launcher, there's not many out there that utilize your entire internet speed. All my other launchers use under 20 mb/s

Allow transmogging by slot instead of by item

    Posted: 29 Sep 2020 11:41 AM PDT

One of the saddest things about tmogging (especially when leveling) is that you have to redo it every single time you get a piece of equipment. It would be a big QoL change if we could just tmog the slot instead of the item, albeit for a higher price.

Edit: This doesn't have to replace the current system, it can just be an addition to it.

    I love this game

    Posted: 29 Sep 2020 12:40 PM PDT

I'm going through a really rough time in my life right now, and this game is my escape upon my return from work. It's really helped take my mind off of what's been bothering me. Even offline. Just reading about class changes, what's new, shadowlands, etc. Just wanted to thank this awesome community for helping making this game what it is. Y'all are the shit. I hope I can post this without it getting deleted, and apologies if this goes against any community guidelines.

Edit: Wow. The response to this was not what I expected it to be. I am a new redditor so this is kind of a big deal to me :) Thank you all for the responses, I will get to them all I swear! This amazing, positive feedback just proves my point of how dope this community is!!!!!
