Murloc Monday - ask your questions here!

    Aaaaaughibbrgubugbugrguburgle! RwlRwlRwlRwl!
That's murloc for "Welcome to Murloc Mondays" - where people can ask any type of question about WoW without getting strangled by a Death Knight.
Questions can range from what's new in Battle for Azeroth, what class is OP, and how many Demons will it take to down Thrall?
Questions can come from brand new players, players returning, or veteran players who never got a chance to ask the right question. Afraid of not getting an answer? Rest assured, we know that at least 90% of questions get answered!

You may want to look at /r/wownoob (Retail), or /r/AzerothNoob (Classic) as well!

Here are some handy guides to start your adventure in Battle for Azeroth for the first time or start World of Warcraft as a brand new player or start Classic World of Warcraft as a brand new player.

Unless you played in the current expansion, pretty much everything has changed. If you're returning after a very long break, check out the WoW Returning Players Guide.

If you are returning from earlier in Battle for Azeroth, check out the guides for gearing up, unlocking Nazjatar and Mechagon, and flying.

It's so dumb to limit these things to an area.

There is a reason the saying "Fun detected" it a thing and this is just one of many things Blizz does to limit players ability to do anything remotely interesting in game.

Projected Textures - Dark Legacy Comics #735

    Posted: 26 Jul 2020 02:27 PM PDT

It has been almost eight months since we've received Corruption. After having played this game for a little over 15 years, I can confidently say that Corruption is the most unfun mechanic I've ever experienced in this game.

    Posted: 26 Jul 2020 05:38 PM PDT

I have been playing this game since March of 2005, and out of everything I have experienced in this game, the Corruption mechanic is by far the most unfun and frustrating experience I've ever had in this game. I am mostly talking about the negative effects that come from stacking corruption, but even the actual buffs your character gets from corruption has become unfun; having a near-GCD capped rotation as an Arms warrior with a very fast GCD sweep surprisingly gets old fast. Relying on procs to do a massive amount of damage gets old fast.

Grasping Tendrils is infuriating. Having a slow proc at the same rate regardless of your corruption starting at 1 is just terrible. On N'zoth, you are consistently taking damage throughout the fight; while the slow isn't fatal, it is a gigantic annoyance. On Ra'den, it can be fatal: if you exhausted all your options and get a chain proc of Grasping Tendrils in phase two, you can easily just die from multiple circles of Void Eruption spawning under/around you. On Jaina, you can easily fall behind or get hit in the intermission stage of the fight because you're taking consistent damage. These are just a few out of many examples.

The Eye of Corruption mechanic is almost as annoying as Grasping Tendrils. Fortunately it usually isn't that big of a deal damage wise, but it can become an issue where you can get chain procs in scenarios where you can't move, or you have to stand in a group stack. You learn to save your cloak for scenarios like these, but just as with Grasping Tendrils, you can just get absolutely screwed by it with all options to help mitigate it exhausted.

I don't run with Grand Delusions much, but I also have a gripe with it. Either having back to back procs, having it proc when a large burst of damage goes out, or it spawning practically on top of you is bad. There are multiple ways to handle this mechanic, but it's a bigger for problem for some classes than others. With that being said, I also think that this is the least annoying mechanic from corruption.

In short, corruption is one of the worst mechanics I've ever experienced in this game after 15 years and after playing the Shadowlands beta, it showed me just how bad it feels to deal with these frustrating random mechanics on top of dealing with other mechanics in the game.

Target caps on the Shadowlands beta feel like trash

    Posted: 26 Jul 2020 02:11 PM PDT

Not a long rant but its something that has been very noticable on the beta.

Look, target caps are fine sometimes. Avenger's shield can't be hitting 30 targets because I want that shield back eventually. An ability that hits 2 targets instead of 1 that shares a cooldown with a single target ability? Great! That rewards you changing your rotation based on the number of enemies present.

But man the 5 target cap sucks. I've been playing beta on ret and windwalker and fuck man it just sucks to be in a situation with more than 5 enemies and think 'ah well, time to press consecrate and wait 12 seconds for it to do 200 damage to each of them!' It feels like it limits my capacity as a player, and feels like being penalised for being in any sort of aoe situation. And this isn't just end of expansion MDI meme pulls, this is like in the starting area, in keys, presumably on raid trash etc. It means fights with burst aoe like Thogar will suck, doing old content will be more time consuming... not sure how to articulate it more without just whinging but damn it doesn't feel like a positive change.

It seems bizarre that after a whole expansion of warriors complaining about bladestorm target cap that they decided to nerf everyone else's aoe instead of uncapping bladestorm. And yeah I read the reasoning when they announced the change, and decided I would wait to give it a try before instantly dismissing it, but instead of feeling more cleave oriented it just feels like we have less capacity generally.

And I know that 'fun' isn't a particularly helpful metric, but fuck it is not fun to be trying to kill a big pack and know that you aren't hitting everything despite doing your aoe rotation.

tl;dr waited until trying the classes with target caps before judging how it feels, and it feels like shit

Target capped AoE feels horrible in SL, and there are ways to achieve scaled down aoe without hard capping

    Posted: 27 Jul 2020 01:39 AM PDT

TLDR for people who are out of the loop:
Most specs have gotten their AoE capped at 5 (and a couple at 8). This means that you will do 0 damage to the 6th (or 9th) target in a pull.

So it can be a bit daunting to look at MDI pulls and see the tank speed pot and 2 UH dks kill 20+ mobs in 15s. BUT this is an overreaction to that. To many it just looks like "lol just speed pot and pull everything" but grouping packs of mobs together is dangerous and requires a lot of knowledge, practice and skill to pull off, but it feels super rewarding when you make it work, and it's fun to blow up the dps meter when you do. The dungeons with the least of pulling groups together are historically the least popular dungeons

    Fixes:

    Increase the cap from 5:

Title says it all. There is legit a boss in SL that summons waves of 6 adds giving you a total of 7 targets. SL dungeon design in general allows for pulling more than 5 mobs at a time frequently. This feels horrible for a lot of classes

    TD treatment:

For those who missed it; Twilight devastation deals half damage to targets 6-10 and 0 damage to targets 11+

    Soft capping:

So currently on live eye beam hits the main target for 100% damage and non main targets for 66.7% damage. This is still linear scaling.

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1GJCAhjBoDaXl6obXlp3zt_h2K87gR08nMeCmZfaySCw/edit#gid=0

That spreadsheet shows how Eye Beam scales in SLs compared to live. Essentially the total damage goes up the more targets it hits, while damage pr target goes down slightly.

    Don't do anything:

Leave scaling as it is. This is going to be the GCD change all over again where at best people were neutral about the change and the majority hated it.
