8.3.5 could literally just be account bound essences and it would be the best received patch of the expansion

    Posted: 10 Feb 2020 07:04 PM PST

Item level has increased by ~282% over the course of the entire expansion, and other mathematical nonsense you never cared about

    Posted: 10 Feb 2020 02:07 PM PST

[Edit] As /u/Cortyn remarked here, I fucked up the calculations. It's not 282%, but 182%. I corrected the numbers. It was late at night. I'm sorry I failed all of you.

There's also this that might be important.

    The basics of stats inflation

According to WoWHead, the lowest item level for BfA content is 172 (green world drop at level 110), and the highest is 485 (mythic Ny'alotha, N'Zoth and his carapace only). Now the fun part, let's pick a single non-azerite slot (legs) and compare the stats between a random green and the top of Ny'alotha :

    • Item level : from 172 to 485 (+181.98%)
    • Main stat (STR/AGI/INT) : from 45 to 834 (+1753.33%)
    • Stamina : from 68 to 1616 (+2276.47%)
    • Secondary stats total : from 58 to 346 (+496.55%)

Long story short : we gained a fuckton of stamina, and (proportionally) a miserable amount of secondary stats. That's why you're still not reaching a decent amount of crit on your Feral Druid and fail to generate combo points in a satisfying manner but hey, you choose to play Feral on the first place so quit complaining for a minute, alright ?

Now let's compare some rings, because those are the core of the secondary stats. Again, a peasant green and a royal purple :

    • Item level : from 172 to 485 (+181.98%)
    • Main stat (STR/AGI/INT) : from 0 to 0 (+0%) 'cuz it's a ring ya dummy
    • Stamina : from 38 to 909 (+2292.11%)
    • Secondary stats total : from 58 to 608 (+948.28%)

Note how stamina used to be less than the total secondary stats, but is now considerably higher. The turning point was heroic Eternal Palace (iLvL 430). Not that you really care, it's just a fun fact. Like this entire thing that you're reading.

Of course you'd want more. Numbers. You're addicted. That's why I'm not pulling all of that out of my ass and made a fancy spreadsheet with each mythic raid tier and some graphs. Feel free to request more stuff, because I'm currently bored enough to write this post.

Now, what can we learn with that ?

I guess WoW devs going batshit crazy on stamina numbers isn't that surprising considering the past (as we could see during Legion - look, that Paladin has 8.8M health), but I wasn't expecting it to climb that quickly. A level 110 has around 20k health, a fresh level 120 decked in leveling greens is slightly under 100k, and I saw a Ny'alotha-geared monk yesterday in some random heroic dungeon boasting a ridiculous 800k health. Granted, that was the tank, but I pity the poor low-gear healer that had to top that guy with 15k per heal.

Now why is stamina growing so quickly compared to the rest ? Well that's easy, it's to make raids considerably more deadly to lower geared characters by tuning raid damage considerably higher than the previous tier, compensated by the considerably higher stamina from that raid's gear (and the multiple stamina percent from the glowy cocaine neck). That, or they really fucked up the stamina formula, I don't know man I don't work at Blizzard after all.

So Shadowlands will compete with Diablo 3 for the biggest numbers ?

Not even close, and that's the funnier part.

Blizzard has shown that they love ridiculous numbers (see : Legion before the BfA prepatch), but at the same time that they don't like ridiculous numbers that much (see : Legion after the BfA prepatch) and that they have a high tendency to fuck up but will never admit it (see : Legion after the BfA prepatch). That's why there's yet another stat squish coming with Shadowlands (the third since WoD prepatch, the first one coming from mythic Garrosh's total health overflowing a signed 32-bit number), because they will refuse to acknowledge that the numbers would be getting crazy high again. Instead, they masterfully convinced us that it was time for a complete leveling revamp, solving the absolute shitfest of a timeline that is the current leveling experience while also sweeping even older content (e.g. everything pre-BfA) under the rug and pretending it never existed, so new players can have a decent leveling experience and preserve their eyes against wolves made in 2004. You're not fooling me, Blizzard.

Anyway, according to the Blizzcon 2019, it means that BfA content (as well as anything that isn't Shadowlands, but Chromie sure isn't telling new players) will be relegated to the 10-50 level bracket, and Shadowlands will get the 50-60 level bracket. What this actually means is that mythic Ny'alotha may become level-equivalent to mythic Antorus (currently iLvL 240), and Shadowlands may pick up at lvl 50/iLvL 172 like nothing ever happened so they can go wild with the inflation again. Repeat the entire process for the next expansions until eternity. The perfect plan to make the game outlive us all.

And this, children, is why a goddamn 2292.11% stamina inflation over a single expansion doesn't matter anymore. On the bright side, the Shadowlands prepatch has the potential to be the absolute best/worst shitfest in all of WoW's existence, with Thunderfury becoming best-in-slot for mythic N'Zoth, Ny'alotha-geared players getting absolutely thrashed by Ragnaros (any version), heroic Deathbringer's Will tearing entire guilds apart again, and transmog farmers silently weeping in a corner now that absolutely everything is technically the same level as they are. ...Probably.

And that concludes my TED talk. Stay safe, have a nice week, and calm down on the azerite snorting, fellas.

Discussion of Wolvar as a playable race in 2011

Game was better when the only RNG was whether or not the item dropped

    Posted: 10 Feb 2020 06:12 AM PST

Now with this corrupted you also have to

-Hope it is corrupted in the first place -Hope the corruption is the one that will most benefit you -Hope it's the right rank (lower ranks can be better, more dmg per corruption)

I get that this is their way to keep people playing this skinner box, but it's just not fun putting the same amount of effort and time as some dude but he gets to do 20% more DPS cause he got lucky with corruption.

I see a lot of hate towards WoW, but obviously people are still logging in daily. Why do you still love the game? What makes it special for you?

    Posted: 10 Feb 2020 08:16 PM PST

Please don't just say dailies. This is more for those who fell in love with the game at some point of wows lifespan and still enjoy it. to this day.

I'm currently not playing, but I've been thinking about playing again. However, all I see is a lot of negativity towards the game. I'm sure it has problems. Every game does, but there's also still subs and activity any time I've played or seen someone log in.

With all the leveling changes coming to Shadowlands, it'd be awesome to see the Legion class halls utilized throughout the leveling experience again in some way. Combining the class fantasy of these halls with a possible return of class quests (along with de-pruning) would be neat!

A reminder that someone thought an 1/3333 drop chance from a seasonal boss is a good idea.

    Posted: 10 Feb 2020 07:33 PM PST

Good luck to all rocket farmers and their alt armies, but the fact people keep trying after literally decades may very well be the reason developers would never set the game's reward RNG to levels deemed sane and acceptable.

Coming back to the game after missing the previous patch and both of my BiS essences for PvE and PvP are mega time gated, this is some bs.
