Trial period: A relaxation of meme rules

    Posted: 09 Dec 2020 10:18 PM PST

    Hey /r/wow community!

During the first few weeks of Shadowlands, the subreddit entered a period of low-moderation - meaning that the moderation team was less stringent on the regular rules of the sub, including allowing more memes than usual.

After the low-moderation period ended, we saw many posts on both /r/wow and /r/wowmeta from community members asking for rules to be permanently relaxed on memes. One of the most popular threads on the topic was here: https://www.reddit.com/r/wow/comments/k70zb3/mods_say_they_want_to_promote_thoughtful/

In the past, the mod team has noted that memes can hinder pure-text discussion threads, as image posts are more frequently upvoted and seen on a platform like Reddit. However, throughout the early days of Shadowlands we found much of the discussions about gameplay to be taking place within the comments of relevant meme posts.

After a lot of discussion, the moderation team has decided to move forward with the relaxed meme rules. The trial period will last one month (until mid-January), and at that point we will listen to community feedback on the rule change, and whether or not it will stay.

    Old rule:

In the case of images or videos, we consider the content without captions (i.e. - the title of the Reddit post, any captions or text added to the image or video itself) to decide if a post is related. In the case of memes or joke images, we require them to be wholly recognizable as being a "WoW meme". If you remove the text and the title from the post, it must be recognizably about World of Warcraft. All generic memes are subject to removal.

    New rule:

In the case of images or videos, we consider the content without captions (i.e. - the title of the Reddit post, any captions or text added to the image or video itself) to decide if a post is related. In the case of memes or joke images, we require them to include WoW imagery". If you remove the text and the title from the post, it must be recognizably about World of Warcraft.

If you don't feel like playing "spot the difference" between the rules, a TLDR: generic format memes will now be allowed, provided they have WoW assets on them. For example, class icons edited over a meme template would be allowed.

As always, please feel free to provide feedback here, in /r/wowmeta, or through modmail.

    See you in the Shadowlands,

    The /r/wow mod team

If you list your M+ group as "185ilvl+" without actually setting the ilvl requirement to join to 185, I'll just assume you are low ilvl and want to get your ass carried.

That's one way to artificially increase your item level (he kept it through entire +3 key)

Your Conduits should be tied to your Spec, changing when you change Specializations

    Posted: 09 Dec 2020 03:09 PM PST

I hate the fact that changing my specialization doesn't change my conduits.

They're just like talents and legendaries already have the drawback that they only benefit one spec (atleast for now). Besides, that conduit energy mechanic is plain stupid, idk if anyone really spends all that stuff

    Maw Phasing is stupid

    Posted: 09 Dec 2020 07:53 PM PST

I do not understand why the maw phasing is a thing. Why does Blizzard feel that forcing players all the way to Oribos and back to the maw is a good idea?

Players from my OWN SERVER have still have to do this.

It prevents people from getting stuff done. I have been standing at a rare elite in the corner of the maw for 30 mins cause I cant get anyone to to go all the way back to Oribos and run all the way back to this mob. This mob, Morguliax is very far out of the way, so people in LFG looking for a group for this mob are already at the mob location and balk at having to go all the way back to Oribos and then back to mob. And yes I have also asked general chat, but this rare is really far out there. and people are lazy.

I am also having to explain maw phasing to everyone who tries to join the group.

Looking for WoW University [PLEASE READ]

    Posted: 09 Dec 2020 12:13 PM PST

    Hey all!

If you are familiar with the recently formed group and guilds for WoW University, please keep reading! Sometime in the past hour, the Discord, subreddit, and more were all suddenly deleted. I am looking to reconnect with the people that were a part of it.

The founder of the group suddenly removed himself and blocked many members last night and today, and now all of the groups have been deleted and disbanded. I am not sure of the origin of these incidents, but it is not okay at least in my mind. So, if you were a part of any of these communities, reach out to me, and let's try again!

(I don't know if this goes against the LFG rule, but I hope this unique event is met with a unique allowance if it does break a rule. Sorry if it does)

Completed a +9 De Other Side with 36 seconds left. Got 35 anima.

    Posted: 09 Dec 2020 07:56 AM PST

    Dear Blizzard,

This expansion is great. The art and sound design nailed it once again, and the system designers have done pretty well! That being said, can you scale the end of dungeon Anima awards with difficulty of said dungeon?

    Thanks,
    Everyone

Edit: I'm not complaining about the loot. I literally got a piece of gear from the dungeon. I am specifically talking about anima and that it should scale with the higher difficulty of the dungeon. Yes, I understand that anima is a cosmetic currency only, but some of us would like to get the 1,000 anima per week quest done by only doing content we like, and 35 per m+ dungeon is.... extremely little.

I completed my first ever m+ today!!!

Seems like a silly thing to be excited about, but I tried once in Legion and once in BFA. Both were nightmares and I said never again. This expansion i fell into a great guild and completed 3, 2 in time, 1 off by like a minute. Sorry this is pointless i was just really excited and eager to share :)

I like fewer skips in SL dungeons

    Posted: 09 Dec 2020 10:56 AM PST

Its so nice that there are only a handful of skips in each dungeon now. No more complicated pathing accidental butt pulls. Just see a pack, kill a pack. Plaguefall is my most hated dungeon because people are expecting all of those ones. For the most part though its all nice simple hallways.

How about you? do you prefer complicated skips? or just see a pack kill a pack?

Props to Blizz for creating something fun and engaging outside of raids & mythics

    Posted: 09 Dec 2020 09:54 PM PST

I'm aware maybe most of you were really excited for the Castle Nathria raid, Mythic+, or even the new PVP season this Wednesday but for me it was Torghast!

I immediately cleared out all the layers available and had so much fun doing that. It even made me start streaming and posting YT videos again. Even though there are no incentives whatsoever for clearing a layer more than once (not yet anyway), I still do it. I help others clear it or try to get a crazy build.

I haven't felt this enthusiastic about WoW for years, decades even. I sincerely hope Blizz is planning lots of future content for Torghast!

P.s. I know that Torghast is not an original idea but I literally do not care. If Torghast becomes an exact ARPG copy (like Hades for example), I'll be much happier.
